Barbolian Store

People keep asking me where do I get my info, do I sell stuff other than garlic, & can you give me some advice on etc. – and the answers are, “All over the place,” “Well, sure, why not?” and “Let’s have a cup of coffee or tea :)

So this is the beginning of a running list of some stuff I make, some things my friends make, some things I support through affiliate programs or just because I like them, and some (hopefully) useful links for other things that fall into that etc. category.

As always, feel free to contact me with questions – and stop back in occasionally to see what I’ve added, mmm k?

Got Garlic? (…one can never have too much!) – We’ve been growing garlic since 1976 and are happy to share. To get your garlic fix, simply go to the Buy Garlic menu and get the latest status on what we have and what’s going on. We used to have a shopping cart, but it was a bit too convoluted. The best way to buy is to contact me and let me know what you’re interested in. I’ve gotten to know some of the nicest people that way! Much nicer than a form. Course, we garlic lovers are a friendly bunch!

Warre Beehives - The beauty of the Warré hive (pronounced “War-ray”) is that it allows bees to be bees. With this “minimal interference” approach to beekeeping, bees are allowed to build their own comb in a hive that is more like a tree. Advantages? Bees have an easier time keeping the temperature just right and are able to build cells just the right size for their intended purpose, whether to store honey or to lay and raise larvae, all which results in strong hive better able to resist disease and parasites.

Swarm Traps! – Get ready for the Swarm Season and don’t let them get away! Seeing the bees swarm is a rather magical event – but even better if you catch the swarm! These boxes will increase your chances!  They are designed to fit perfectly on the Warre hives and provide a gentle way of introducing a bee swarm to a new home – one that minimzes chaos and injuries.

2013 Flower Power Calendar – My favorite photos of the garden (and a few of the gentle creatures who visited it and helped me along) – compiled in a calendar for 2013. A great place to keep track of where you are in time, or if you are like me, just enjoy the pictures!

Good Books – “A book is like a garden carried in the pocket.” ~Chinese Proverb

I really like that quote. Good books, like gardens, are my inspiration – whether it’s about cooking, gardening, creative expression, or escaping into a story that tells us about ourselves … some books help you get down to business; others you take to that little secret place in the garden where you can hide out and get lost for awhile…

Whatever the purpose – take this link to some Recommended Books (a definite work in progress and I am open to suggestions of your favorites!) – be sure to look for the Category Links on the right column to access the various lists. And don’t forget to check back in for the latest.

(If you buy from the links, yes, Amazon will donate a small thank you to my little enterprise here, but it’s fine with me if you’d rather support your local bookstore! Either way, thanks in advance!)

Seed Packet Art – I am a huge fan – what can I say? Now the beauty of seed packets don’t have to get crumpled up in a box you store in a cool, dark place – now they can be full-size posters on your walls. Love it.
