(One can never have too much….)
It’s decision time. Are you reeling from the varieties and the choices? We are here to make your life further complicated.
People buy garlic for many obvious and not-so-obvious reasons. We have warned you about obsessions and closet-garlic-hoarder syndrome (oh, we skipped over that subject? umm, never fear, we are here for you!). But whether you buy it to grow, sell, and keep your habit within reach, or whether you buy it to share, or just buy it to scarf down on site – your reasons are safe with us.
You can purchase by the bulb, by the bundle, or something fun and unique, described below. Or all of the above! Whatever you decide, it’s like being in an ice cream shop: it’s all good!
PRICE LIST:
- Extra-large bulbs: $2.50 each
- Large bulbs: $2.00 each
- Medium-size bulbs: $1.50 each
- 6-pack variety gift cartons: $8.00
- Grab bags: $2.50 per 1/4 lb., while supplies last.
- Braids: $15-$20, depending on size.
The economy is pretty tight for just about everyone these days, and we are trying our best to keep our prices as low as possible (believe me, I’m not getting financially rich off this stuff – but I HAVE made a lot of friends!). A couple of years ago, we switched to per-bulb pricing to make it easier for people to figure how much they are getting. YES! We are always open to trades!
Frequently Asked Question: How big is a “large?”
Good question! The wishy-washy answer is: It all depends on the variety. Some varieties run an average of 1.75″; others might get up to 2.5″ or even 3″. So…it’s all relative, based on the average for that variety. (And yes, I keep statistics on the averages, maximums, survival rates, and other factors from year to year! I even do graphs and pie charts. It’s kind of a leftover thing from my corporate life. Or else I’m just kind of weird like that!)

Gentle elegant elephants: We think elephant garlic gets a bad rap. True, it’s not really garlic. True, it has many of the same properties. Elephant garlic is to garlic as leeks are to onions. They are mild, subtle, sweet. The sugars carmelize when roasted. They are wonderful raw, steamed, sauteed, spread on fresh toast, and whipped up in mashed potatoes. They give new meaning to the phrase, “There’s no such thing as a little garlic!” Try them again. Appreciate them for what they are – an entity unto themselves. (Sorry! Sold Out!) |

Grab bags: Maybe you are one of those who love garlic – can’t get enough of it – but don’t really care what variety it is or what shape it’s in [it's all good]. Grab bags are an economical way to get your fill of the good stuff at a bargain price. These are smaller or slightly over-mature bulbs – not the prettiest, but still excellent eating! (while they last). (Sorry – sold out!) |

TIPS TO REMEMBER:
- Hardneck varieties are, in general, more strongly flavored than the softnecks; however, softnecks last longer. So if you buy hardnecks, eat them first.
- Don’t cook garlic (especially delicate elephant garlic) at too high a heat as it can quickly turn bitter. Cooking mellows the flavor (raw garlic is the most potent!).
- Garlic is best stored at cool temperatures away from humidity. For long-term storage, do not store in the refrigerator, as it will encourage sprouting.
And most importantly …
