Thank you everyone for all your support and a wonderful season!

I have met so many great people in selling my garlic! Seriously, it’s been the best part of this business!

Sorry to say, I am all out of stock for sale. If you are in the neighborhood, though, I would probably have a few small bulbs that I would give to you! Drop in!

We are looking forward to a very high quality crop in 2010! Please check back in!

Nov. 1 Update:

SEED STOCK: We are sold out of all of our seed stock; we have a limited quantity of the medium-sized hardneck varieties left.

Braided_garlicWE HAVE BRAIDS! These are made from TRANSYLVANIAN, SILVER WHITE, and SILVER ROSE varities. They are tied with a bundle of rosemary, sage, and thyme at the top: the perfect gift for your food-loving friends!

ALSO – BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: GRAB BAGS!!! If you are one of those who love garlic – can’t get enough of it – but don’t really care what variety it is or what shape it’s in (it’s all good). Grab bags are an economical way to get your fill of the good stuff at a bargain price. These are smaller or slightly over-mature bulbs – not the prettiest, but still excellent eating! (while they last). $2.00 / 1/4 lb.

Prices:

Extra Large: $2.50 each (my premium seed-stock bulbs; ideal for planting; limited quantity)
Large: $1.50 – $2.00 ea, depending on variety (still good size and great for eating or planting)
Medium: $1.00 each (smaller, but very tasty. Smaller bulbs mean smaller plants, but you could still plant these with good results. )
Smallest: I eat these  :-D

If shipped, a $3.00 fee is added for packaging plus whatever is needed for postage.

Seed stock shipped mid-September through October.

Our advice: Eat garlic! Eat Lots of It!

HARDNECK VARIETIES: best for cooler climates; very flavorful; shorter shelf-life
Variety ASIATICS: First to mature; moderate keeper. 5-7/cloves/bulb. Heat Index Shelf Life (Months)
Asian Tempest Sorry! Sold Out! Originated in South Korea; relatively rare in U.S.; rich, long-lasting flavor. Bulbil beak can be 18″ long. * * * 4-6
Japanese Sorry! Sold Out! Larger Asiatic variety; pearly white wrappers; yellow-cream cloves; easy to peel. Rare variety obtained from an elderly Japanese farmer in Western Washington. This one has done quite well in our fields. * * 5-8
Variety PORCELAINS: Store longer than Rocamboles; great flavor. 4-6 cloves/bulb Heat Index Shelf Life (Months)
Armenian Sorry! Sold Out! A big bulb, with four huge cloves and a silver wrapper that hides a lot of heat. * * * 5-8
Georgia Crystal Sorry! Sold Out! A pretty variety that produces large bulbs with 4-7 fat cloves. The flavor is relatively mild, even when eaten raw. Long storing. High allicin content lowers cholesterol and boosts immune system. * 6-7
Georgia Fire Sorry! Sold Out! Similar to Georgia Crystal except averages 5 to 8 cloves per bulb. Raw taste is very hot! A good salsa garlic or salad warmer. * * * 6-7
Music Pink Sorry! Sold Out! Music to the taste buds! A blush of pink; long storage. High allicin content for lowering cholesterol and boosting circulation and the immune system. This one consistently does well for many growers and is fast becoming a standard for the Porcelain variety. * * 6-7
Romanian Red Sorry! Sold Out! Came to British Columbia from Romania. Large cloves; tougher skin; long storing; hot and pungent; long-lasting bite; tastes hotter after storage. Good storage. * * * 6-7
Susan D. Limited quantity left! Beautiful, big porcelain from Canadian grower, Flora Baartz. Mild in heat but high in garlic flavor. This one has been my strongest plant in the field for the past 2 years.
*
6-7
Variety PURPLE STRIPES, MARBLED PURPLE STRIPES, and GLAZED PURPLE STRIPES: Retains flavor when cooked; good for baking. 6-10 cloves/bulb. Heat Index Shelf Life (Months)
Bogatyr Sorry! Sold Out! A BIG purple striped (marbled), robust hardneck; produces a few, easy-to-peel cloves. Fiery flavor. Stores longer than many hardnecks. Seriously, the cloves on these bulbs are Huge, plump, firm, gorgeous. Fewer cloves means you need more bulbs to get a crop growing. * * * 4-6
Brown Tempest Sorry! Sold Out! Brown cloves with a hint of rose blush and no stripes. Averages 4 to 6 cloves per bulb with nice shape and size. Raw garlic has initial taste that mellows to a pleasing garlicky finish. This one has often been my best performing bulb out of the Purple Stripe varieties.
* * 4-5
Chesnok Red Sorry! Sold Out! From Shvelisi, Georgia; high performing; easy to peel. Mild with a bite! Superb for roasting and cooking; holds shape and flavor. Has won numereous “best baking garlic” contests. (small bulbs store longest) * * 4-6
Metechi Sorry! Sold Out! This fiery little bulb gives high powered garlic flavor. Probably originated in the Republic of Georgia. Raw taste is fiery but with a nice finish. This one has grown well for me. * * * 4-6
Persian Star Sorry! Sold Out! Vivid clove colors: the outer bulb wrapper is sometimes smooth white; inner wrappers are purple streaked with red tips. Very pleasant flavor with a mild spicy zing. From a Samarkand, Uzbekistan bazaar in the late 1980s. This bulb starts out weird – it grows in a kind of whorl – and then the spiral straightens into one of the strongest in the field. * 4-6
Russian Giant Sorry! Sold Out! These big bulbs have 6-8 giant, easy-to-peel cloves and have spiced up many a Cossack’s dinner on the windy steppes. *** 4-6
Siberian Sorry! Sold Out! An outstanding strain, originally secured by fishermen trading green leafy vegetables with locals who grew only root crops. The clove skins are dark brown; creamy white inside; mild heat. Very high allicin content. This one has consistently done so well for me, I planted more of it than any other variety. * 5-6
Vekak Sorry! Sold Out! From Czechoslovakia; beautiful, deep purple bulbs! Varied sizes. Fiery taste that improves with cooking. * * * 4-6
Variety ROCAMBOLES: Very flavorful! Very hardy, easy to peel, but short storage. 4-8 cloves/bulb. Heat Index Shelf Life (Months)
Carpathian Sorry! Sold Out! From Carpathian Mountains, southwest Poland. Large, uniform bulbs; bulb wrappers have thin copper veins and varying purple blotching. Classic garlic flavors, nice overall tang, hot and spicy, strong and garlicky. * * * 4-6
Juan de Fuca Wonder Sorry! Sold Out! Our own! Adapted to Sequim Valley conditions over 20 years; rich and spicy. One of my personal favorites! * * 4-6
Killarney Red Limited quantity left! Easy to peel; outstanding raw; retains flavor when cooked; rich, garlicky-butter aftertaste. * * * 4-5
Nash’s Delta Giant These very large bulbs are from Nash’s Organic Produce and grown locally in the Dungeness River delta soils. A true treat! Our supply is limited – for the best, go to Nash’s store in Dungeness! Sorry! Not Available! We are donating this year’s harvest to the Friends of the Fields Harvest Dinner to raise money to save farmland in our region!
* * 4-5
Sandpoint Sorry! Sold Out! An exceptionally hardy rocambole grown in the mountains of northern Idaho on the Tauber Angus ranch. It has an outstanding raw taste, with large cloves and deep flavor. * * 4-6
SOFTNECK VARIETIES: Grow well in milder climates, make beautiful braids, long storage
Variety ARTICHOKES: Extra large, long storing, mild flavor. 12-20 cloves/bulb Heat Index Shelf Life (Months)
Inchelium Red Sorry! Sold Out! The best softneck for roasting; large, cream-colored bulbs, tinges of purple/rust; mild, lingering buttery taste. High soluble solids give this variety a denser, heavier feel and more edible portion than other garlics. Mild but lingering buttery taste. This one has also done extremely well for me. I usually plant a lot. * * 6-9
Polish White Sorry! Sold Out! From New York. Largest of the softnecks. Initially hot, but tones down quickly with a “sticks around” buttery sensation on the lips. This has rated “top performer” along with the Inchelium in my field. * * 6-9
Siciliano Sorry! Sold Out! Large bulbs, symmetrical and firm; milder flavor. Perfect for pasta, tomato sauces, olive oil. Long storing. I am Sicilian. I cannot NOT grow this! I have had variability in the field, but it did quite well in 2009. * * 6-9
Transylvanian Limited quantity left! Discovered in a Romanian farmer’s market in the mid-1990s. BIG cream colored bulbs with up to 16 cloves contain an excellent flavor with more than a bit of a bite. Twilight fans beware. * * 6-9
Variety SILVERSKINS: Best for Braiding. 12-20 cloves/bulb Heat Index Shelf Life (Months)
Silver Rose Limited quantity left! Large, rosy-skinned cloves (6-8 to a bulb). Not overwhelming heat. Good keepers. These are very similar to the Silver Whites; slightly different color; maybe a little smaller. * * 8-9
Silver White Limited quantity left! Cooking brings out the flavor of this beautiful silverskin variety. This might be rated a 2-star heat, but I tell you what, I ate this raw and was bending over with tears running down my face; it burned all the way down and I loved every minute of it! Whooeee. * * 6-9
Heat Index Shelf Life (Months)
ELEPHANTS: A variety of leek with garlic properties. Very mild; huge bulbs!
Elephant Sorry! Sold Out! The “Great-Headed Garlic Leek” – King of roasters, nearly 5” in diameter! Not a true garlic; actually of the leek family. Mild, delectable garlic flavor. Careful! Cooking at too high a heat will turn it bitter.  * 9+
Heat Index:  * = smooth & mild;   ** = medium;   *** = grab the fire extinguisher!
