March Blooms: Flowers Are a Welcome Site for Bees and for Us All!

March Blooms!

Ah! The Ides of March! Winds, Rain, Snow, Sunshine – anything can and will happen. The Equinox signals the transformation of when light dominates over darkness, and all of nature seems to wake up in response. Food might be sparse for the bees, but more and more they emerge when the day is calm and return with pollen from pussy willows, alders, and emerging dandelions and crocuses. How long we wait for them! All the sweeter! Here are a few things blooming at Barbolian Fields during this tumultus time!

  • Cornelian Cherry
  • Crocus
  • Daffodils
  • Dandelion
  • Heather
  • Henbit/Purple Deadnettle
  • Nanking Cherry
  • Pansies
  • Primroses
  • Pulmonaria
  • Pussy Willows
  • Red Flowering Currant
  • Wallflowers
