Wild Harvest with Mac Smith: Seaweeds and More from the Strait of Juan de Fuca

February 19, 2021June 21, 2017

Bull Kelp at Freshwater BayOutside my back door are vast Permaculture Zones 4 and 5, i.e., managed forests and those areas left (more or less) to be wild. It is a rare and wondrous place, and I am always cognizant of how privileged we are to live where we do.

About Barbolian Fields

Hi there – I’m Blythe. We create ecosystems with herbs, flowers, uncommon fruits, veggies, and other useful plants for bees, birds, and their human friends. I like to trade/sell seeds & plants. We also make a lot of stuff. I ramble about all that and more on these pages. Sign up for our newsletter for more insights and wild promises. I only send one out when I get around to it (i.e., not that often).

What I am currently reading:

"The Secret Wisdom of Nature - Trees, Animals, and the Extraordinary Balance of All Living Things, Stories from Science and Observation," by Peter Wohlleben, the guy who wrote "The Hidden Life of Trees" - a wonderful book full of things you hadn't realized or thought about. The main premise: Everything is connected. Nature only gets out of whack because people mess with it.

Here are some great books from Chelsea Green Publishing on gardening, homesteading, nature & the environment, and saving the world!
