Quilt Box for the Warre Hive is filled with loose material. We used a combination of sawdust and dried leaves. The bottom fabric, a canvas-like duck cloth, is stapled on. Beneath the “Quilt Box” is a layer of burlap, stiffened with a flour paste. We combined this with a small-mesh screen, just to keep the bees from eating through to the Quilt Box. The whole set-up aids in ventilation and absorbing condensation.
