Food, water, shelter, a safe place to raise their young … this is all any of us really need.
And yet, what is perhaps a shelter for one, might be the land of opportunity for another, where the bird feeder takes on multiple meanings, and what was intended to be a “safe house,” might also attract many predators.
Nature is many things. It does not choose sides, but rather, seeks balance. Or so we like to think. Perhaps it is just a whole bunch of things going on at once and everything adapting to changing conditions to meet those basic needs listed above.
And yet we – Homo sapiens – have the ability to step in and change everything at a whim – even the very climate. We can repair or destroy. We lose track of where we came from in all the greed and consumption.
And so I have attempted to create something that nourishes creatures of all kinds, including humans. It has become more complex than anything I could have imagined when I was focused on raising bees, herbs, and garlic, and designing plant guilds in what I liked to call my horticultural experiment.
Now it is a jungle out there. I’m never quite sure exactly what I will find – but almost always connection and inspiration.
This ecological garden will always be a work in progress. I will keep adding to this page as it evolves.
Thank you for stopping by … please stop in again.
